Hair Loss Prevention

Do you wash your hair less because you think it will prevent your hair from falling out?

I would like to share with you that this is a myth! It is recommended to wash your scalp / hair at least one more time than normal if you are experiencing hair loss.

The top reasons why people lose their hair are:
Genetic (hereditary), hormones, poor diet, health & medications for different types of illness e.g. anti-depressants, cholesterol and high blood pressure drugs to name a few. Other factors that may contribute to hair loss includes too much stress, over processing, smoking and overuse of alcohol.

Unfortunately, 70% of men have it in their DNA / GENES and will suffer from Alopecia- which is commonly known as balding. However, if they act on it from an early age they can reduce or delay the hair loss for up to 15 years.

It has become a lot more common for women to see hair loss these days also because of the different factors as mentioned before.

It is very important to use high quality professional hair products with nutrients that cleanse, nourish and re-energize the scalp. Men & women should use special shampoo & treatments that aid in hair loss once they see any signs of it.

As a qualified Trichologist here are a few things I would recommend in general:

Wash your hair at least 2-3 times a week with products containing Salicylic acid, Sulphur rich amino acids, Provitamin B5 etc. AND to have a Residue Scalp Treatment done at least 1-2 times a year to remove buildup of different styling aids etc. on your scalp. These products & procedure will help to purify & stimulate the scalps hair follicle for growth.

I also recommend doing a Head/Scalp Massages of 5-15 mins once to twice a week. Receiving a massage releases dead skin and improves the blood circulation to your hair follicle. Once the scalp hair is nourished, your hair is much less likely to fall out prematurely. Remember also your diet can be a big part of hair grow/loss.

If you have a problem with loosing hair you should visit your hairstylist for a consultation. Your stylist can then recommend you what would work best.

If you are experiencing a more serious hair loss, they can then refer you to a Trichologist who is a scalp & hair specialist or to a Medical Doctor if it is health issue out of their aptitude.
